In order to support the Indonesian government's program aimed at accelerating national economic growth and enhancing transparency in the procurement process through e-catalogs, the National Electronic Catalog Association (AKEN) recently organized the Indonesia Sustainable Procurement Expo (ISPE) 2023 on March 15-16, 2023. The event had the theme "Sustainable Procurement Through E-Catalog Transactions and Global Product Synergy to Strengthen Domestic Industry and Environmental Friendliness" and took place at JI EXPO Kemayoran, Jakarta. ISPE 2023 encompassed a series of crucial activities including seminars, panel discussions, and a national working meeting.

One of the prominent speakers at ISPE this time was Sonny Sumarsono, who serves as the Managing Director at ADW Consulting and also the Chairman of the Indonesian Procurement Experts Association (IAPI). In his presentation titled "Facing Challenges in the Procurement Industry for the Year 2023," Sonny Sumarsono highlighted the significant developments in the procurement industry. The procurement of goods and services is now considered an industry due to the increasing transaction values, a wide range of stakeholders involved, and the strategic impact of these transactions. In efforts to create an efficient procurement industry, Sonny Sumarsono emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders within the procurement ecosystem. Additionally, he identified challenges related to the implementation of effective procurement principles, including efficiency, transparency, competitiveness, fairness, non-discrimination, and accountability. He also stressed the importance of sustainability in achieving local content requirements (TKDN) and supporting the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM).

Another challenge discussed by Sonny Sumarsono was the need to establish an efficient procurement ecosystem where internal and external stakeholders in the procurement process work closely together. Effective collaboration among stakeholders is considered key to achieving excellence in procurement. He also highlighted the limitations in the talent pool and competent human resources in the procurement field. To address these challenges, a superior skill set is required in various aspects of procurement, including technical understanding, administration, commercial aspects, legal aspects, financial aspects, as well as social and economic aspects, along with strategic, communication, and leadership skills.
